In general, coffee machines are divided into two categories: commercial machine and home machine.
Household semi-automatic espresso machine portalfilter and basket are roughly divided into: 51mm, 54mm, 58mm
58mm is only used in the high-end(more than 570) household semi-automatic espresso machine, other home machines, mostly use 51, 54mm two sizes.
Therefore, when we choose a coffee machine, we need to check the size of the powder bowl.
But for commercial machine, they are all using 58mm baskets, including single powder bowl, double powder bowl, clean powder bowl (blind bowl).
The basket capacity of every machine is different. Usually, the carrying capacity of single basket is 7-10g, and 14-20g for double basket.
At present, we basically use double powder bowls to extract espresso, so a single powder bowl is seldom used.
Portalfilter is used together with basket. It also divided into 2 types:
Single cup portalfilter: cooperate with single basket and can only extract 1 cup of espresso.
Double cup portalfilter: cooperate with double cup basket and can only extract 2 cups of espresso.
There is also a handle, which is a bottomless handle. This is different from the traditional handle, which has no base and is mainly used with a double powder bowl, mainly to see if the extraction has a channel effect.
Before adjusting the grinding, we need to confirm the extraction parameters and adjust the grinding.
Here is a extraction parameters for your reference.
Coffee powder: 18-18.5g
Extraction time: 22-24s
Extracted Liquid weight: 30-32g (can be adjusted according to the specific circumstances)
The above extraction is composed of these 3sets of parameters, and when we adjust the grinding, we fix the two parameters and adjust one parameter centrally. It is recommended to keep the powder and the weight of the extracted weight, control the extraction time to adjust the grinding.
